Fourth grade welcomes fourth quarter with continued work on fractions, multiplication, division and an introduction to geometry. We will carrying on working more on word problems.
In Socials we’ve been studying fur trade, cotton mills and factories of the USA. Students also participate in group discussions about everyday events related to the news, the environment, and how we can contribute to improving the earth, our lives, and the lives of others.
Science has been all about water molecules and living things in various bodies of water. Students loved discovering what amazing life actually lives in the deep, dark depths of the sea!
Language Arts invites us to explore our next theme titled Survival! Fourth grade is reading an excerpt from the book, Island of the Blue Dolphins, and how Karana, a girl their age has to find a way to survive alone on an island, where she was accidentally left behind. It’s an exciting story which allows the kids to strengthen their critical thinking skills and engages themin figuring out ways Karana can get off the island and find her family.
In Art, Elementary is learning how to weave with colorful strips of paper. They have to measure, cut accurately and then thread the strips through a large piece of paper to create a beautiful tapestry of colorful squares. That is our goal! It teachs organization, focus and creativity.
Middle and High School Art is exploring how to paint with gouche, acrylics, and water colors. We will also begin working on tri-chromatic art. The objective is to have one specific image in mind and then replicate it three times. With two colors and some blending students then paint those three images differently.
