2008 is an Olympic year! Below is a press release on the official start and end time:
"The 2008 Summer Olympics will start on Friday August 8th and run until August 24th at 08:08:08 in China which will make it 12:08:08 (just after noon) in the UK with the opening ceremony being held at the Beijing National Stadium.
They've gone for 08:08:08 as "8" is a very auspicious number in Chinese culture."
Grades 9-10 are creating presentations about the Olympics for our elementary students. The project's 3 main goals are:
1. Build on a number of technology skills such as video/audio production, and internet research.
2. Improve public speaking skills with a study of presentation skills.
3. Educate our elementary students about the Olympics and build hype for the big event.
The topics our presenters will be focusing on are: History, Mascots, Fans, and events.
Students will also be sending words of encouragement to Jen Rhines, who ran cross-country/Track & Field with Mr. D in high school. Jen represented the USA in the 2000 and 2004 Olympics and has an excellent chance to qualify for the Beijing games in one of the following events: marathon, 10,0000 meters, and the 5,000 meters.
