Middle and High School Art is going very well. Last week’s project is on display next to the 4th Grade classroom, please have a look. Students were given a piece of a magazine picture which they then had to replicate onto their own sheet of 81/2 x 11 paper. They were not allowed to see eachother’s work until the project was done. Their individual perceptions were very interesting and allowed for a creative rendition of Picasso!
Katherine, Audrey, and Kary continue to work diligently on painting the library table and book case sketches and are doing an excellent job! Lilibeth and Arqui, along with Katherine’s help painted the ‘EA’ logo on the cafeteria floor and finished applying varathane this afternoon. I’ve really appreciated their enthusiasm and willingness to help - great school spirit! Next step will be adding a yellow background behind the EA lettering and red in the larger square. Luckily I found the paint today in the Art room.
Susan, Ale and I were talking about utilizing that red space for honorable acknowledgements of academic achievement or perhaps citizenship? Maybe the school can select those oustanding role model students each quarterly report card period to have their handprint on the red square along with their name and the date? Any other suggestions are very welcome.
Next assignment for both Elementary and M/H School Art is learning how to draw using an easy step-by-step process. This week it is learning how to draw a horse from basic shapes and lines which students gradually build on until their picture is complete. So far the responses from the students have been positive and the results impressive.
Elementary’s horse pictures are due Wednesday, September 19th and M/H School’s are due Thursday, both in colour. I'll be proudly displaying them by the front entrance. A wonderful website to check out for helping you or your students learn to draw different animals or objects :

Thanks to everyone for keeping the kids away from the wet paint in the cafeteria, we hope to be done in a couple of days.
Also, please talk to your students about always bringing their materials to Art. They need to bring a white eraser and a pencil, preferably not a retractable one as the lead is too hard. Mongol pencils work fine and can be found at Unicasa. A ‘long’ ruler is also required, however the Hello Kitty ruler I’m afraid needs to be Good-Bye Kitty as it’s just way too short to use in Art.
